Residential electrical service enters each home at a meter provided by the power company. This meter is typically visible from the exterior and covered with a glass globe. Only the power provider has physical access to this device. No one except a trained representative of the power provider may enter or tamper with this meter. It is extremely dangerous to do so and could result in death by electrocution.
Any concerns about the electric meter must be addressed to the power provider.
Electric Meter - OFF LIMITS!
From the meter, electrical power enters by cable to a Breaker Box or Fuse Box. Fuse Boxes are obsolete in residential application. Replacement of the Fuse Box with a Breaker Box is recommended. Replacement must be performed by a qualified, licenced electrician ONLY. Attempting to replace or repair the service entry point (Fuse Panel or Circuit Breaker Panel) is extremely dangerous and can result in death by electrocution. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS YOURSELF UNLESS YOU ARE A TRAINED AND LICENCED ELECRICIAN AND EXPERIENCED IN THIS KIND OF WORK. An Electrical Permit is most likely required if there is regulation in your area.
