You've always thought it would be fun to drive a fast car. Maybe your's is out in the garage. Or maybe it isn't. While hardly any cars are cheap these days there are some great values in FAST Cars. The one that easily comes to mind is Corvette. Arguably it's the most recognized specialty car in the USA. The top speed on the newest Corvette is over 186 MPH or 300KPH and speeds of recent model years approach that.
Yes, the Ford Fans have the Mustang and while fast if properly equipped, most are not. Those that have Cobra and other premium options may be fast, but on a road that looks like a snake, the Corvette is going to be out front. Modern Corvettes with a near 50/50 front/rear weight distribution and low center of gravity corner pancake flat. Coupling speed, handling, and endurance makes the Corvette a true sports car. Dodge has the Viper but its substantially higher cost and lower production numbers makes it harder to find. In a nutshell, Corvette is the best value, is most easily attainable and is overall the most recognized American sports car.

For some the Corvette is simply not practical at this time in their lives. You can't put kids in the back seat because there isn't any. Forget that trailer for vacation. It's hard to find other valid reasons for not driving a Corvette but here are some that we've heard:

Insurance costs. Corvettes enjoy a strong owner base of mature responsible adults. You don't see a lot of teenagers tooling around driving a 'vette. More than other cars, a significant number of Corvettes are garaged and/or driven on weekends or special occasions. Many Corvette owners have at least one other car as their "daily driver." These factors help keep Corvette claims and premuims low.
Individuals and policies vary but many owners report that their Corvette insurance premium is lower than their other car.

MPG/Fuel costs. Let's get real folks. Have you seen all the SUVs out there today? Today's Corvette weighs about 3200 pounds. The 345/350/405/400 horsepower engines built in the last few years are very efficient. EPA rates them around 19 City, 28 Highway and you can do better. These cars can be driven with zest and still get good milage. If you want to get 40/50 mpg get a Geo Metro for your daily driver. Corvettes do require Premium grade fuel and that can cost about 19 to 20 cents more per gallon. That's less than a penny per mile. You probably spend more than that on snack food and the Corvette is a lot more fun and lasts longer than an ice cream cone.

Tickets. Yes if you exceed the speed limit your could get a ticket. Are you more likely to get a ticket in a Corvette? No. If you consistently exceed the speed limit, sooner or later you're going to get snagged no matter what you drive. If you are the first and fastest car around the curve or over the crest of a hill the waiting trooper has you. The Geo doing 70 passing a 'Vette at a legal 55 gets the ticket. Given your behavior behind the wheel, you are no more likely to get a ticket in Corvette than another car. You are no more likely to get a ticket in a Red car than any other car.
